Classes I teach at The Yoga Lounge: Slow Flow
My yoga certification(s): 200hour CYT Tribe Yoga Academy Edinburgh, Scotland
Why I love yoga: Oh how I love thee, let me count the ways. I love yoga for the many many areas that I can apply its principles in my life. I love that it shows me how I respond to life's ups and downs, in a very safe and intimate setting. I love that it allows me to be completely authentic and raw and that I can fall and struggle and shake and sweat and in all of that, I know that I am growing and building an inner strength that will carry me through dark times. I love that it's creative and that it feels like I am expressing my deepest hearts desires without having to speak. I love that it is a "practice" and that it is never ever a "perfect". I love how it can be deeply personal and beautifully inclusive at the same time. I love that it is always there.
My interests other than yoga: Physically I also love strength training. Lifting weights has felt very empowering for me and there is no denying the amazing benefits of weight bearing exercises! I am also somewhat/completely obsessed with animals and melt into a puddle as soon as I connect with a dog! I am really into cooking as well. I love creating delicious dishes to share with others and to see their surprise when they realize that they just ate and thoroughly enjoyed an entire meal without meat! Cooking different cuisines is always exciting! I love Syrian, Moroccan, Indian, Turkish, Malaysian, Mexican food. Basically any dish where you get to build the flavor profile and add heat, that's where I'm right at home!
My favorite quote: "Do not kill the instinct of the body for the glory of the pose." -Vanda Scaravelli
What this quote means to me is that we don't have anything to prove and when you are a student who relies a lot on the teachers guidance, you are in a very vulnerable position.. remember to trust your instincts. Challenge yourself for sure! But ultimately, your body is your responsibility. We, as teachers, are there to guide the practice, one posture to the next and to offer a safe space for you to explore your edges and boundaries instinctively. So, as soon as I read this I thought, I love this quote!
