Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

  • Expect to be guided with care. Our classes begin with a few moments to arrive and center, followed by intentional movement and breath, and close with rest or quiet reflection. You'll be supported with clear instruction, thoughtful options, and props that help make the practice accessible. Yoga is not about achieving a shape, it’s about coming home to your body and breath.

  • If you're new to yoga or returning after a break, we recommend starting with Gentle Yoga, Hatha, Accessible Yoga or any of our Yin or Deep Stretch classes. These offer a slower pace, more guidance, and time to build awareness in your body and breath. If you're looking for more movement and flow, try Slow Flow or Vinyasa. Not sure where to begin? Reach out. We're happy to help you find the right class for your needs.

  • Hatha is a broad term that refers to the physical practice of yoga. In our studio, Hatha classes focus on individual postures, breath, and alignment with a slower, steady pace. Vinyasa is a more fluid style where postures are linked together with breath to create a continuous flow. Both styles cultivate strength, presence, and inner awareness in different ways.

  • We encourage you to consult with your doctor first to ensure it’s safe for you to practice. Once you’re cleared, let your teacher know before class so we can support you appropriately. Our team is skilled at adapting the practice to meet individual needs, and we’re fully stocked with props like bolsters, blankets, blocks, and straps to make your practice safe, supported, and accessible.

  • Not at all. Yoga isn’t about flexibility. It’s about awareness and meeting yourself where you are. Over time, you may notice your body becomes more open or strong, but the real heart of the practice is about connecting to yourself with compassion. All bodies are welcome, and the practice meets you where you are.

  • You can sign up online through our website or using the MindBody app. This is the best way to reserve your spot, especially for popular classes or busy times of year. Walk-ins are welcome when space is available, but preregistration is encouraged.

  • We do not allow late entry into the studio. To protect the integrity of the practice space and respect everyone’s experience, the studio door is locked at the scheduled start time. Please arrive 5 to 10 minutes early so you can settle in mindfully.

  • Bring a yoga mat if you have one and a bottle for water or mug for tea if you’d like. We have mats and all the props you need available at the studio. Blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets are always free to use and help support your body in a way that feels right for you.

  • Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. We practice barefoot. If you tend to get cool during stillness, we recommend bringing a sweater or long sleeve layer for comfort. The Yoga Lounge is not a heated studio unless indicated in the class description.

  • Yes. Our restroom can be used as a private changing area, and cubbies are available for your shoes and belongings. While the studio is locked during class, we recommend leaving valuables at home when possible.

  • We ask that all phones and digital devices be silenced and left in the cubbies or outside the practice space. Yoga is an inward practice, and removing distractions helps support a quiet, focused experience for everyone.

  • Om is a sacred sound and in yogic tradition is considered the original vibration of the universe. It symbolizes unity, wholeness, and the interconnectedness of all things. Chanting Om together can help settle the mind, bring our attention inward, and create a shared energetic space. You are always invited to join, but never required. Listening in silence is equally welcome.

  • Namaste is a traditional greeting in India that expresses respect and recognition. It’s often translated as “The light in me honors the light in you.” In yoga, it’s a way of acknowledging our shared humanity and the deeper presence that lives within each of us.

  • Yoga is a philosophical and experiential practice with deep roots in ancient Indian traditions. While it can be deeply spiritual, it is not a religion. Yoga offers tools to cultivate awareness, balance, and connection. Many people find that it supports and deepens their existing beliefs. At The Yoga Lounge, we honor yoga’s origins while welcoming all paths and backgrounds.
